WARNING: Please read and follow these directions to ensure the safety of children, pets, warranties, and a lifetime of satisfaction.
Concerning child safety, nothing can replace proper adult supervision.
~ALWAYS KEEP BLIND CORDS OUT OF THE REACH OF CHILDREN.
Always use safety devices including cleats (included with your order) mounted high enough to be out of the reach of children and pets. Always maintain cords to hang free without tangles or knots.
~BEWARE OF OBJECTS BELOW OR NEAR A WINDOW THAT MAY PRESENT A CLIMBING HAZARD.
Move cribs and other furniture safely away from any window treatment or cord hazard.
~NEVER TIE CORDS TOGETHER.
Should cords or any other part of your window treatment begin to fray, loosen or operate improperly in any manner, immediately remove the treatment from the window and seek proper repair. In the event a bracket begins to loosen from the wall, immediately remove the treatment from the window, properly repair the wall using suitable anchors or other means and then reinstall the shade properly. LOOSE BRACKETS OR IMPROPERLY INSTALLED SHADES PRESENT A FALLING HAZARD. With such a condition your safety is compromised and warranty will be void.
INSTALLATION:
Installing your natural shades will be a breeze if you follow these simple instructions. You will need a few simple tools. A screw-gun or drill with a screw tip is recommended for the easiest installation. Otherwise a screw driver, an awl, and a pencil should be all that you will need. You may also need to furnish screws and/or special anchors suitable for the material to which the brackets are to be fastened. Your local hardware specialist can assist you with this.
INSIDE MOUNT INSTALLATION (Wovens):
-Unpack and lay out all parts included with your new custom shade. Be sure to check ALL packaging for hidden parts and or hardware.
-Locate the mounting brackets, and remove the wing nuts.
-Hold the headrail of the shade up to the window. Using a pencil, lightly mark the position of the slots at both ends of the headrail (and center slots if provided) on the top of the window casement.
- Hold the bracket so that the threaded bolt is aligned with the pencil mark. Secure the bracket to the TOP of the window casement. Do not use the holes on the back of the bracket. Do the same for the other bracket(s).
- Place the shade so that the bolts of the brackets fall into the slots on the head rail.
- Center the headrail in the window opening.
- Place wing nuts on the bolts and tighten until secure.
- With the shade in the up position, determine a safe height to mount the cord cleat.
- Secure the cleat to the wall or trim where it will be out of the reach of children and out of the operating path of the shade.
-Lower the shade. If the shade appears to be cut at an angle a simple adjustment is necessary. Simply tug on the material to realign the woven fabric. This may be necessary from time to time as the cloth is natural and hand-woven.
Congratulations, you are now an experienced installer!

OUTSIDE MOUNT INSTALLATION (Wovens):
- Unpack and layout all parts included with your new custom shade.
- Locate the mounting brackets and remove wing nuts.
- Hold the headrail of the shade up to the outside of the window. Using a pencil lightly mark the position of the slots at both ends (and center slots if provided) of the headrail.
- FOR WINDOWS MEASURED WITH TRIM: Hold the brackets so that the threaded bolt is aligned with your pencil marks and the top of the trim. Using the screws included, secure the brackets to the window frame or trim using the holes at the rear of the bracket.
- FOR WINDOWS MEASURED WITHOUT TRIM: Measure and mark two inches above the opening to accommodate light leaks as recommended in the measuring instructions at the time of order. Using a level, draw a light level line to the other side of the window. This line is where the top of the bracket is aligned when mounted. Secure the brackets to the wall using the holes at the rear of the bracket. NOTE: You may need longer screws or anchors to properly secure brackets.
-Place the shade so that the bolts of the brackets fall into the slots of the headrail.
-Center the headrail over the window opening.
-Place wing nuts on the bolts and tighten until secure.
-With the shade in the up position, determine a safe height to mount the cord cleat.
-Secure the cleat to the wall or trim where it will be out of the reach of children and out of the operating path of the shade.
--If the shade is mounted to a door, and you desire to secure the bottom rail to the door when in the fully lowered position, use of VelcroTM is recommended.
-Lower the shade. If the shade appears to be at an angle, a simple adjustment is necessary. Simply tug on the material to realign the woven fabric. This may be necessary from time to time as the cloth is natural and hand-woven.
Congratulations, you are now an experienced installer!
SHADE OPERATION:
Cords operate the same whether installed on the left or right.
-To raise the shade simply pull on the cords to the desired height. Pull cords to the right to lock.
-To lower the shade pull the cords to the left and lower to the desired height.
-Should the shade raise or lower with difficulty or at an angle, the cords probably are misaligned. Lift the valance and insure that all cords are not tangled and are properly routed on the pulleys. All cords must be raised or lowered together to ensure even operation. If difficulties persist, CALL US FOR ASSISTANCE at 413.528.5443.
INSTALLATION OF ROLLER SHADES (contract)
WARNING: Please read and follow these directions to ensure the safety of children, pets, warranties, and a lifetime of satisfaction.
ALWAYS KEEP BLIND CORDS OUT OF THE REACH OF CHILDREN. Use safety clips mounted high enough to be out of the reach of children and pets. BEWARE OF OBJECTS BELOW OR NEAR A WINDOW THAT MAY PRESENT A CLIMBING OR FALLING HAZARD. Move cribs and other furniture safely away from any window treatment or cord hazard. NEVER TIE CORDS TOGETHER. Should cords or any other part of your window treatment begin to fray, loosen or operate improperly in any manner, immediately REMOVE the treatment from the window and properly repair. LOOSE BRACKETS OR IMPROPERLY INSTALLED SHADES PRESENT A FALLING HAZARD. Please call with ANY question or concern. Installing your custom shades will be a breeze if you follow these simple instructions. A screw-gun or drill with a screw tip is recommended for the easiest installation. Otherwise a screw driver, an awl, pliers, and a pencil should be all that you will need. Your local hardware specialist can assist you with screws and/or special anchors suitable for the material to which the brackets are to be fastened.
INSTALLATION
- Unpack and lay out all parts included with your new custom shade. Hardware may be hidden within packing material.
- Hold the shade up to the window. Using a pencil, lightly mark the position of the slots or tips of the shade at both ends on the top or sides of the window casement. BE SURE THAT MARKS ARE LEVEL to each other.
- Hold the bracket so that the appropriate slot is aligned with the pencil mark. Secure the bracket to the top or sides of the window
casement. For outside mount use the back of the bracket to secure to the trim or wall. NOTE: You may need longer screws or anchors to properly secure brackets.
- Repeat for the remaining bracket(s). Note; Depending on mounting orientation not all holes may be utilized.
- Place the right side of the shade into the bracket. For Clutch rollers insert Clutch into its bracket first.
- Place the left side into the bracket by rotating as necessary. Be sure shade is LEVEL to insure proper operation.
- For optional Fascia installation hook the top lip of the fascia onto the top corners of the brackets. Press the bottom of the fascia until the fascia is engaged and locked into the bracket. Secure bracket covers (returns). Install supplied lock screws and finishing caps to the underside of the fascia to lock the fascia to its brackets.
- Lower shade to desired height. Crimp stop ball to chain to set lower limit.
- Raise shade to desired height and repeat to set upper limit.
- Determine a safe height to mount the chain safety clip that will be out of the operating path of the shade. Install chain safety clip with proper tension to allow stop ball(s) to travel through clip. Be sure not to stretch or pull excessively on the chain causing pre-mature wear.
- The optional use of Velcro™ is recommended to secure the bottom rail to minimize the swing of shades mounted to a door.
Spring Roller Tension Adjustment
- Although every shade is tested and calibrated, adjustment may be necessary. The spring may have loosened in shipping limiting the shade from rolling up. If the shade will not stay down, the spring is too tight.
-To DECREASE Tension: Raise the shade to the top and remove from its brackets. Manually unroll the shade about 18" and place back in its brackets. Pull shade down and test. Repeat until desired tension is reached.
- To INCREASE Tension: Lower the shade about 18" and remove from its brackets. Manually roll shade up and place back in its brackets. Pull shade down and test. Repeat until desired tension is reached. NOTE: Over-tightening the spring will result in permanent damage that is NOT covered under warranty.
Telescoping Adjustment
- Although every shade is tested and calibrated, adjustment may be necessary.
- Be SURE brackets and shade are absolutely LEVEL.
-Traveling to the LEFT: Unroll shade all the way down and apply a piece of tape (Flying Dutchman) to the RIGHT side of the roller. This will incrementally take up slack and adjust the travel of the shade. Additional layers of tape although unlikely may be necessary.
-Traveling to the RIGHT: Unroll shade all the way down and apply a piece of tape (Flying Dutchman) to the LEFT side of the roller. This will incrementally take up slack and adjust the travel of the shade. Additional layers of tape although unlikely may be necessary.
CARE AND CLEANING:
- Your custom natural shades are simple to care for. Routine light dusting is all that will be necessary. The brush attachment on your vacuum cleaner is recommended for deep cleaning. Should excessive moisture come in contact with a shade, simply allow it to air dry with the shade in the full down position. Scrubbing with cleansers or blotting dry may permanently stain or deform the woven cloth. Natural sun bleaching or fading may occur over time. This is a natural quality inherent to the material.
Congratulations, you are now an experienced installer. Please make an honest effort to recycle or reuse the packing materials that your shades arrived in. We are continuing our efforts to replace these materials at the very least with those derived from recycled or sustainable sources.
We thank you for joining our efforts to preserve and enjoy the beauty our natural habitat has to offer.
We wish you pure enjoyment of your shades in a lifetime of good health.
NOTES: Due to the nature of the material; color, grain, texture, privacy and light transparency may vary according to the inherent growing characteristics of the materials.
Though we strive to control every last detail regarding our shade production, some patterns may not be suitable for our friends with chemical sensitivities. Please see Chemical Sensitivites or contact customer service for additional details.
Some patterns may require additional operating options based ordered dimensions, conditions, and or customer desires. An Earthshade Representatvive will assist with recommendations.
Minor stretching and twisting is inherent to natural materials and may require a varying amount of time to acclimate. Sun exposure may cause discoloration or fading..
